HIGH COURT OPENING ON MONDAY
MBABANE – In about a week’s time, judges of the High Court are expected to roll up their sleeves and get down to business.
After being away for about a month and a half as the court has been in recess since mid-December 2017 for the Christmas holidays, judges of the High Court have been requested to convene at the High Court Library at 8:30am next Monday fully robed in readiness for the official opening ceremony of the court on the same day.
This is contained in minutes addressed to judges of the High Court and Supreme Court regarding the official opening of the High Court of Swaziland.
The official opening will mark the beginning of the first session of the court in 2018. It is worth noting that the 13 judges will preside over a total of 325 cases during the first session which ends on May 4, 2018.
Each judge has been allocated a total of 25 cases which they are expected to have heard by the end of the first session. The ceremony is expected to be graced by diplomats, chief executive officers (CEOs), senior government officials and the Law Society of Swaziland (LSS), among other attendees.
It has been gathered that about 300 guests will converge to Court A of the High Court where the ceremony will be held. Members of the public usually attend the event as well.
The gathering will be addressed by the Chief Justice, Bheki Maphalala, President of the LSS Ben J. Simelane and Attorney General Sifiso Khumalo.
