SITEKI – A senior civil servant in one of the government departments in Siteki has been reported to traditional authorities for allegedly performing rituals at a graveyard situated near a public road.

His identity and other particulars are known to this publication but they have been concealed deliberately since he has neither been charged nor questioned by any authority.
Members of the community where the civil servant resides have alleged that he has been performing weird rituals at the graveyard for the past couple of years.

They alleged that he has become a nuisance to the community hence they want traditional authorities to take him to task so that he could desist from this act.
“Sometimes he bathes at the graveyard yet it is situated next to the road. One day, some pupils reported to their mother that they saw him naked,” alleged a community member.
According to some community members, the civil servant usually performs the rituals around 7am or at night.

“He was once caught red-handed by a neighbour bathing at the graveyard at night. His neighbour tried to speak to him but he said nothing. However, on the following day, he approached the neighbour and asked him why he had disturbed him,” alleged another community member.

The community seems to be very scared of the civil servant as all those who were interviewed pleaded to remain anonymous while others declined to be interviewed.
It was gathered that apart from reporting the matter to traditional authorities, some community members have reported the civil servant to his stepmother, who resides at his parental homestead, which is also situated in the community.
“Due to that he is performing the rituals at a family graveyard, we felt his mother could stop him from using that place,” said a community member.

However, when she was sought for comment, the stepmother said though she had been inundated by complaints from community members about the matter, there was nothing she could do.
She stated that she was not in good terms with her stepson hence it would be difficult for her to talk to him about stop the rituals that he was allegedly performing at the gravesite.

“Recently, a young man came to complain to me about him and I advised him to approach the community messenger (umgijimi),” said the stepmother.
Mlindazwe Inner-Council Chairman, Sipho Simelane confirmed that traditional authorities had received complaints from residents about the civil servant, who was allegedly performing rituals at the  graveyard.
