OLD SISWATI SYLLABUS FOR FORM IVS
PIGG’S PEAK – Pupils in some of the country’s schools will have to beat the old adage, ‘time wasted is never regained’.
This is because they spent part of the first term studying a wrong siSwati syllabus, which contained short stories that have been discontinued following the introduction of a new syllabus.
It has been gathered that affected pupils are those in Form IV.
The 2018/2019 syllabus, which should have been released before schools opened was only released last Thursday. This resulted in schools carrying out lessons using the previous 2017/2018 syllabus.
In the latest syllabus, some of the short stories have been discontinued but teachers were not aware of this as the latest syllabus had not been released. During a recent workshop, which is said to have taken place last month, school representatives are said to have been informed about the changes to the syllabus.
The number of schools that were affected by this could not be ascertained at the time of compiling this report though it was gathered from some head teachers that quite a large number of schools may have been affected due to communication constraints from the relevant authorities to the school’s administrators.
During a workshop which was held mid-last month in Manzini, school representatives are said to have been informed about the changes to the syllabus, specifically siSwati which has been made a core subject by the Ministry of Education and Training.
This essentially means that all schools are expected to teach this subject in all grades.
