MBABANE - The Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) has commenced an advocacy and awareness raising week. It will culminate on March 23, 2017.

SEC encourages the Swazi nation to join millions of homes and millions of businesses around the world that will be in the dark on March 24, 2015 between 08.30pm and 09.30pm as part of Earth Hour commemoration.

This year’s campaign culminates on March 24, 2018 at 8.30pm to 09.30pm when SEC, Nedbank, Swaziland National Housing Board (SNHB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, Matsapha Town Council, Swaziland Water Services Corporation (SWSC),  Meteorology, Galp, Swaziland Environment Authority (SEA) , Forestry, Mondelez, Ezulwini Town Board, Swaziland Energy Regulatory Authority (SERA), Swaziland National Trust Commission( SNTC), REASWA and more organisations join others around the world in turning off the lights for an hour as an act of symbolic unity.

It is a time to reflect on, renew and celebrate your commitments to protecting our planet beyond the hour. The event will be commemorated at House on Fire. This is an event that aims to create awareness of people taking responsibility towards a sustainable future by turning the lights off. Earth Hour aims to encourage and empower individuals, businesses and governments across the world to push the environmental challenge of climate change to the top of their agenda.

This year marks the 11th edition of the Earth Hour, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has created a global tagline ‘Let Nature Shine’. More than switching off our lights, we are being asked to switch to an earth honouring lifestyle.
