UPROAR OVER MANGWANENI LCC SIGNING FOR GUN LICENCES
MANGWANENI – So easy is getting a gun at Mangwaneni such that ‘chickens and cats can have them’.
This was the opinion of Khumbulani Ngwenya, a resident of Mangwaneni who expressed his disbelief that the area’s Local Council Committee (LCC) signed gun licence forms for people who wanted to own the weapons. This was during a community meeting held at Mangwaneni Primary School yesterday.
Ngwenya informed the public that to his knowledge, guns were signed for by a chief or ndabazabantu.
He called on the Gun Licensing Board and the police to intervene in the matter as guns might find their way into the hands of wrong people.
He referred to the LCC as the terrorist organisation, Boko Haram. “Tibhamu natisayinelwa ngulaba, titogcina tiphatfwa nabokati,” Ngwenya said.
This can loosely be translated to mean, “If these people sign for guns, cats and chickens will soon have them.”
Ngwenya stated that it was a mistake for Mangwaneni residents to vote for a ward councillor. He wondered how a person from slums could be a councillor.
Ngwenya supported his statement that the area was not under the municipal council with certain statements which, however, cannot be repeated as the matter is still pending in court.
The Municipal Council of Mbabane filed a court application asking for the court to declare Mangwaneni as part of the city.
A resident, who identified himself as Wandile Dlamini, argued that the LCC had supporting documents affirming that they were a legal structure while residents supported theirs verbally only. Dlamini asked that council be invited to address the matters affecting residents as a way forward.
