ICT MINISTER LAMBASTS STVA BOARD FOR LEAKING INFO TO MEDIA
LOBAMBA – The Swaziland Television Authority (STVA) Board seems to be skating on thin ice. This was the message sent by the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Dumisani Ndlangamandla, to his ministry’s Senate committee during the budget debate yesterday.
Ndlangamandla minced no words as he blasted the Board for leaking information to the media before they reported to him. He shared that of late, he received calls from reporters asking him about decisions taken by the Board after meetings before he was even aware of them. He said this was seemingly the same thing that happened with information that reached parliamentarians.
Speaking as though the Board’s days were numbered, Ndlangamandla shared his experience with slaughtering pigs. He explained how easy the process was as he took senators step by step through the process. What irked the minister were reports around the issue of the STVA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position which recently made newspaper headlines. He shared that slaughtering a pig entailed covering it with a sack, pouring it with hot water and scrubbing it with an axe.
“Nayichubeka inona (lengulube) ngitayihlaba vele,” Ndlangamandla said.
This was after the Deputy Senate President, Ngomuyayona Gamedze, thanked the minister for being honest to the House. Gamedze said the minister had practically admitted that the Board he appointed was not honest. He sarcastically said since he appointed the Board members, he should learn to live with them.
“This is your pig; it’s fattening for you,” Gamedze said.
Ndlangamandla explained that STVA was currently going through the CEO recruitment process and added that the man holding the fort currently worked on a six months contract. He stated that the Board had to appoint a CEO before that period elapsed.
