LOBAMBA - “The exit of Mngwengwe is a blessing in disguise to the Swazi nation.”

These were the words of Senator Sibusiso Shongwe during the adoption of Senate portfolio committee reports yesterday.
Shongwe almost spoke in tongues as he described how excited he was at the news that South African national, Tanda Mngwengwe was no longer occupying the hot seat at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). “I celebrated when I heard that lomngamu sohambile . I said thank you God, saphumula,” Shongwe said.

He threw his colleagues in stitches as he joked about how he did not even know how to spell the former commissioner’s name and used ones such as ‘Ngcwembe’ and ‘Mgcwembe’.
Ironically, Shongwe once held the top position of Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and once wrote a strong worded letter after the commission started investigating certain monies that were deposited into his law firm’s Trust Account.

A few weeks ago, through his lawyer, Shongwe filed an application in court where he contended that Mngwengwe was unlawfully in office and that he was executing duties that were not mandated to him by the Constitution. He also made a hue and cry about the unlawfulness of both the commission and Mngwengwe’s office. During the sitting yesterday, Shongwe  not only celebrated Mngwengwe’s exit but punched holes in the manner in which the same ministry had written a response to a question that was posed regarding the former commissioner’s position and existence in the country.

Shongwe brought it to Senate’s attention that the responses that were presented yesterday were far from what was actually said when the concern on Mngwengwe was raised.
