MANZINI – Proceedings were disturbed yesterday in court as five snakes, believed to be cobras, invaded the court premises.
The snakes hid in a hole situated near Court Four, which is always used by Principal Magistrate David Khumalo.

Coincidentally in 2013, a cobra emerged from under a desk belonging to the same principal magistrate and in the same courtroom.
Court orderlies, including Correctional officers, members of the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP), court officials and members of the public, got quite a scare and shouted after seeing one of the snakes, which looked rather comfortable, emerge from the hole.

Each time it emerged from the hole, it did so with the four smaller ones, sending shivers among those who were in close proximity with the hole.

The snakes were visible to those along the corridors as the walls of the court buildings have many openings. It was the people who were seated opposite one of the walls who alerted the others about the snakes.
However, the reptiles did not show any signs of aggression.

The snakes were spotted just after lunch. Most court proceedings were disturbed after orderlies and court employees revealed that they were scared of the snakes and could no longer proceed with work.
Even those who were in other courtrooms situated a bit far from where the snakes were spotted, were heard saying they feared for their lives.

The building where the snakes were spotted also houses the newly- renovated public toilets which are currently used by court clerks and typists, among others.
