BOY (12) FOUND HANGING FROM TREE
MANZINI – After the disappearance of her son, a mother wanted to protect him from harm, not knowing that he was ‘pushed’ to the point of no return.
The 12-year-old Mlamuli ‘Dzu’ Maseko of Buhlebuyeza, is suspected to have committed suicide possibly last Sunday evening. The Grade VI pupil was found hanging from a mango tree situated in a bushy veld about a kilometre away from his home on Monday morning.
Mlamuli allegedly used an elastic belt that he wore on the day.
Narrating the ordeal was his mother Busisiwe Maseko. She said she was still baffled by the demise of her son because she never noticed anything amiss that showed Mlamuli was stressed. Maseko said the last she saw her son was on Sunday noon, when Mlamuli returned home from a nearby homestead where he reportedly said he was playing computer games with his three siblings.
The distraught mother said when Mlamuli came home and asked for food, he was jolly and playful as always. Maseko said after eating, Mlamuli left and said he was going back to play the games with his siblings. While away, the mother said she was told that Mlamuli got involved in a fight with an age mate from the same community.
According to Maseko, her son was relieving himself in a nearby bush when a peer shouted to another, asking if he would be defeated by Mlamuli in a fight. The mother said this then incited the two to engage in a fight and Mlamuli reportedly used the elastic belt that he was wearing to whip his contender. Mlamuli is said to have won the fight and as a result, the peer whom he had been fighting with ran home to report him to his mother.
