MANZINI – Self-proclaimed elite league side Matsapha United’s number one fan Kenneth Zikalala of Siteki was found allegedly murdered on Friday.

Zikalala was a loyal supporter of the team, and the most vocal in the stands during matches. His death has left the Matsapha United family devastated, with their fans reportedly flooding the team’s official supporters’ WhatsApp group with messages of condolences. Pupils of Nhlambeni Primary School made the spine-chilling discovery. The pupils were said to have been on their way to school in the morning when they came across the lifeless body of Zikalala lying in a medium thicket by the road near Esikhaleni Selusekwane. Information gathered was that the football fan, who was estimated to be in his 50s, had a stab wound in the head. Sources said there was blood oozing from the wound, and that judging by the state of the blood; the man was suspected to have died the same morning.

However, what was puzzling, according to sources at the scene, besides the stab wound, no body part seemed to have been missing and when searched by the police, his wallet, money and cellphone were found in his pants’ pockets.
However, inside the wallet there was no identification card, but a business card of a certain company. Other residents were of the view that since the man was unknown in the community, it was possible that he was attacked somewhere else and was transported and dumped at Nhlambeni, although the motive behind the murder could not be ascertained. Matsapha United’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini confirmed that indeed the man found dead was one of their own.

“We learnt with sadness the news of Kenneth’s passing and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family,” Dlamini said, before promising that the team will release a detailed statement after meeting with his family. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba confirmed the incident. He opined that the murder might have occurred during the night, considering that the blood was still fresh. Last night, Mamba said police had since identified Zikalala’s relatives. He also condemned the act of killing others for whatever reason. He said no matter the reason, killing others was a serious crime that was discouraged in society.
