PM, COLUMNIST VUSI SIBISI AT IT AGAIN

MBABANE – Daggers have once again been drawn between senior columnist, Vusi Sibisi and the Prime Minister, Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini.

This time, Sibisi has been lambasted by government for his strong criticism of the PM in his column, which is published every Monday by this newspaper titled ‘As I See It’.

In yesterday’s article, Sibisi accused the PM of an alleged ruinous legacy which he said was one that would be impossible to undo. Just a few months ago, the PM found himself publicly responding to Sibisi after the columnist had criticised his book.

Through a statement issued by Government Spokesperson Percy Simelane, government said normally it did not respond to published or broadcast opinion pieces or newspaper columns, but found itself convinced that certain authors were continuously abusing the platform provided by the media to push personal vendettas against it and certain personalities.

The statement stated that the alleged continuous onslaught on the prime minister by Sibisi in his column, left government wondering whether such utterances had not become personal, knowing the history of the author.

“To assume that the PM has used his position to extract maximum benefits for himself, cannot just be left as an opinion which anyone has a right to voice without providing supporting evidence and a conviction of guilt by a court. Otherwise it remains an undue personal attack for which the prime minister reserves his right to action legally,” reads part of the statement.

The statement said Sibisi’s view that the KMIII International Airport should already be making profit within four years of operation was nothing but a fallacy born out of ignorance more than a concern, as no one expected the airport to make an instant profit.
