SITEKI – A security guard was tragically killed when he was crushed by a school gate while on duty on Tuesday night.

Samuel Mabuza (65) was employed by Imbuyiselo Academy, a prestigious private primary school at Mzilikazi in Siteki. His body was found trapped underneath the gate by another employee of the school at around 6am on Tuesday, said the school administration.

“Another security guard whose shift was to start at 6am made the shocking discovery and immediately informed me,” said Patricia Munroe, the Director of the school, who also said she was related to the deceased.

She explained that the gate which crushed Mabuza was no longer in use but was kept right next to the main entrance to the school.
“What we know is that it fell on him and crushed him,” Munroe said while also stating that the whole school was devastated by the incident.

She described Mabuza (deceased) as a loyal and dedicated employee who had worked as a security guard at the school for eight years.
Since there were no witnesses to the tragic incident, it is not yet known how exactly Mabuza died.

However, sources who spoke to people who visited the scene of the incident, told this publication that Mabuza attempted to shift the gate but, instead, it struck his forehead, knocking him down immediately. He is suspected to have then bled profusely, losing all strength to extricate himself and to further shout for help.

He apparently died from the excessive bleeding, but others believe that he may have survived at least until the morning but the very cold temperatures may have made the situation worse. There are also those who suspect foul play but police were quick to dispel such suspicions.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Khulani Mamba, said preliminary investigations suggest that Mabuza died after he was crushed by the gate.
