MABHUNWINI – Amid the growing outcry of abducted children, some of whom are found dead, more children are being kidnapped by unknown people.

The Mliba Police Station has recorded two cases of abduction which occurred last week. One case, that of  a 15-year-old boy, who was allegedly kidnapped while he was entering his family’s kitchen (lidladla) at 6am last Thursday.
The other case related to a 14-year-old girl, who was whisked by two men and bundled into a sedan while she was coming from the shops near the police station.

Last Thursday, at about 6am, a Manana family woke up to screams from some residents who had just seen two men, grabbing their 15- year-old boy and bundling him inside a blue sedan which immediately sped off.

“He was entering the kitchen to get some water so that he could take a bath and go to school when the two men immediately pounced and grabbed him out of the hut.”

“They lifted him out of the homestead and down the forests where they had parked their vehicle.
“He told us that when they got to the vehicle, which had both of its doors opened, they bundled him inside and drove off, unfortunately some of the residents had seen them,” the boy’s grandmother, Norah Manana, said yesterday.

She added that while driving off, the two men had to stop their vehicle and open a wooden gate leading to the other forests nearby, however when one of them jumped out to open it, the boy, Sihle* managed to alight and jumped off.

Sihle, a Sidvokodvo Primary School pupil is alleged to have run through the forests and escaped the clutches of the alleged kidnappers.
“While we were trying to contact the police and search for his whereabouts, he returned home, crying hysterically. This is a very traumatic incident and we are cannot get over it.”

“When I checked inside the kitchen, everything was upside down, including water containers, tins and most of the utensils. It was clear that before they snatched him, there was a struggle inside the kitchen,” Manana said.
