HEAD TEACHER, CHAIRMAN ACCUSED OF LOOTING FOOD
MBABANE – It looks like government is not entirely to blame for the shortage of food in schools.
This follows allegations that a head teacher and a school chairman are looting food at a school in the Lubombo region, which they allegedly use for campaigning among other things
The head teacher and chairman of the school committee are alleged to be collaborating on the corrupt act and looting the pupils’ food for their own benefit.
Information gathered from sources close to the matter, who declined to be mentioned in fear of victimisation, was to the effect that the looting of the foodstuff been going on for some time.
However, they said what had aggravated the situation was that during the past two months, the chairman of the school committee allegedly took a larger portion of the food to donate to members of the community near the school. “We do not know the motive behind this move but we suspect campaigning as it is elections time,” they said.
Some of the allegations include the head teacher ordering the school guard to take some of the beans and rice to her home where she was preparing for a funeral, as she had been bereaved at the time.
As a result, they said the food was no longer benefitting the pupils but instead they were given supplementary food donated by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA).
Despite being alerted that the matter had been confirmed by some of the people working at the school, the accused denied ever taking food belonging to the pupils. The head teacher said she had never taken any food and she did not recall a time when she had been bereaved.
She said the allegations were far from the truth. When approached for comment, the chairman said the allegations were not true.
He said there were many other allegations levelled against them by some of the school employees.
According to the chairman, they have been making headlines in the newspapers that they were misappropriating funds with the head teacher.
