SNYC is an acronym for Swaziland National Youth Council, while youth refers to a person between the ages of 18 and 35.
Speaking during the national radio programme ‘Letishisako’ yesterday morning, the council’s Dumisani Simelane said the position of bucopho was a starting point for the youth. Simelane urged the youth to participate and support each other to make sure that they formed part of the 11th Parliament as bucopho or headmen.

According to the Elections and Boundaries Commission’s (EBC) statistics, 54 per cent of those who registered for the national elections was the youth, something which raised hopes for the council.
Commenting on the statistics, the EBC Public Relations Officer, Mbonisi Bhembe, said the number of young people showed that they adhered to the teachings of the commission. Simelane said the position of bucopho was where young people got exposed to the needs of the people at community level.

He said the position would help the youth learn to coordinate as they would be working closely with the communities and the constituents.
He said the youth would also learn about the operation of the Tinkhundla system of governance.

“The more they identify and solve the problems in their communities, the more they establish themselves for the next position,” he said.
Simelane said the youth could play a pivotal role in influencing the operations of government, through communicating the challenges which hindered the success at their communities, to the relevant authorities.

He made an example that among the things that affected the youth in the country was the high unemployment rate. The increased unemployment rate was acknowledged by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, David Ngcamphalala, during the annunciation of the revival of Youth Enterprise Fund at Mountain Inn Hotel last week.
