PIGG’S PEAK – Strange as it may sound, some British people still believe that when an owl hoots, someone has just lost her virginity.
However, even more shocking is that many African cultures still consider owls as a bad omen.

For this reason, an owl was blamed and later killed after it was found in a classroom near where a teacher had tripped and fractured her leg.
This happened at Gilgal Primary School which is situated in the Lubombo Region.

The teacher, who had reportedly been injured, was rushed to a health facility by one of the teachers but she has not been to the school since the incident.
It is alleged the incident happened after assembly when the teacher was walking towards her class.

When she walked past an entrance to one of the classrooms, she mysteriously missed a step then fell resulting in serious injury. Noteworthy, this is the same classroom in which pupils allegedly found an owl, locally referred to as sahhukulu two days later.

The injury was so serious the teacher’s leg twisted in an unusual direction.
Due to the injury, the teacher is said to have been given medical instructions to stay at home.
About two days later when pupils arrived in the morning, outside the class which the teacher had fallen, they found an owl.

Some of the parents alleged the owl was blamed for the teacher’s fall.
“They killed it before class continued,” said a parent.
The parent said there had been concerns of the presence of an owl prior to the teacher’s fall.
