MBABANE – A mother and daughter have endured the agony of being allegedly raped by the same perpetrator.

The daughter (name withheld for ethical reasons) is 12 years old and is two months pregnant as a result of the alleged rape by a family relative.
The irony in this alleged rape ordeal is that the minor’s mother was also raped at the same age some years ago.

The offender served time in prison for raping the minor’s mother, but is yet to be arrested and charged for the latest incident which occurred about two months ago.

What has delayed the process of apprehending the suspect, who has been reported to the police for the incident, is that legal experts have advised that the alleged rape survivor should carry a full-term pregnancy.
The police said the experts suggested that this would then enable the minor to undergo a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test that would prove the paternity of the child to the perpetrator.

*Joyce, the mother of the minor who has a disability, when narrating the alleged rape said she was still traumatised by the incident that occurred about 25 years ago. She alleged that she did not receive any counselling save for the fact that the perpetrator was arrested.

She said the psychological bruises had been compounded by the latest alleged rape incident of her daughter, and the same person is a suspect. She said her child had been subjected to the same trauma she suffered and what made things worse was that for her child, she would have to grapple with an unwanted pregnancy.

The mother said the minor let out the cat out of the bag after being cornered about her sudden change in behaviour. She said her child alleged that she was threatened with death by the perpetrator and bribed with E5, not to reveal the secret.
What also raised suspicions was that the girl would now and again vomit and craved sour things.

She said she was taken to the hospital where she was treated but the vomiting did not stop, until they called a relative who then bought tablets to stop it.
“It is then that she revealed that the uncle had raped her and threatened to kill her if she ever revealed this to anyone,” the mother alleged.
