MBABANE – Some Muslims need a facility where they can ‘format’ Christian religion values instilled in their children in schools.

This was the view of Dr Basheer Shabangu, who said to date they have not been granted land to put up structures that would support their intention to bring up their children under the Islamic principles.

Dr Shabangu, who subscribes to the Islam faith, said they now needed a facility where they would put up structures they would use to educate their children under the dictates of the Islamic faith.

Training

He said this comes after a failed initiative where they had intended building an Islamic Mission, a Mosque, hostel and training facility to train Da’wah workers.
“Right now we do need a place where we will teach our children and delete the Christian values that have been instilled in schools,” he said.
He said with a population of over 20 000 Muslims living in the country, it was clear that there were about 12 000 Muslim children, most of whom are attending public schools.

He said about 6 000 of these Muslims are emaSwati.
“Since these public schools are now teaching nothing else but Christianity, we definitely need some space where we will be able to engage our children and delete the religion they have been taught at school and instil our own religion,” he said.

He observed that it was not fair to be denied such because their children need to grow up under their religion, making an example that Christian babies are christened from as young as three months when they do not know anything about religion.
