FORMER MP MUZI CHALLENGES TIMOTHY MYENI’S WIN IN COURT
MBABANE – The victory of gospel singer Timothy Myeni as MPs-elect for Nkilongo constituency, is now being challenged in court.
Myeni and the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) have since been taken to court by the constituency’s former MP, Muzi Gwebu.
Gwebu is claiming that there was a litany of irregularities during the Secondary Elections under the Nkilongo Constituency.
He is among other prayers seeking an order directing the EBC to conduct a recount. Gwebu, who was also contesting to be the area’s Member of Parliament, got 1 095 votes, losing to Myeni who amassed 2 255 votes. In his application, which has been filed under a certificate of urgency, Gwebu alleged that there were about 2 000 votes which were unaccounted for. He submitted that the information he gathered from his agent was that the voting process was not properly done and ought to be started afresh.
“From numbers presented as people who voted at the Inkhundla, being 7 185, the number of voters shared among the aspiring candidates only totalled 4 915,” submitted Gwebu.
He went on to tell the court that one of his agents, Nkosingiphile Dlamini, who was present during the counting of the votes, observed that spoilt votes never exceeded 50. The former MP said the question was what happened to the 2 000 votes. Gwebu further alleged that certain registration centres indicated that the votes received on the day exceeded the number shown on the voters’ roll. He alleged that on the voters roll of Phafani, Big Bend High School, only 2 500 were reflected on the voters’ roll but 2 686 voted. According to Gwebu, at Gawula, 801 appeared on the voters’ roll but 880 voted there and at Crooks, 380 were on the voters’ roll but 385 voted there.
