MONENI – While some Moneni residents have sleepless nights following a court order which allows the demolitions of their homesteads, Pitoli Shabangu says they should not panic.

Moneni comprises of three farms which cover approximately 388 000 hectares.
Over 100 homesteads will be reduced to rubble when Tisuka TakaNgwane effects a court order to demolish illegally constructed structures in a farm it owned.
The farm in question is reminder 9, which also forms part of Moneni.

According to the order which was issued by High Court Judge Nkosinathi Maseko two weeks ago, all illegal homesteads that have been constructed in defiance of a 2012 ruling of the Ludzidzini Royal Council and Chief Nkamane Mkhatshwa, will be demolished. The order does not stipulate the date of the demolition.

Interview

In an interview, Shabangu, who is considered the chief’s runner (umgijimi) in the area, said as far as he was concerned, the order would not be effected on the residents.
He said the execution of the order would mean a blessing in disguise to the residents as certain people might be compelled to compensate them after the demolitions.

“When they talk about the looming evictions, I foresee a blessing in disguise. Some of us might build double storey houses after the demolishing because we might be paid a lot of money,” Shabangu said.

The senior citizen said the demolition order would have not been issued had the people in authority not misled the courts and the King about the area.
He acknowledged that Moneni was a farm which according to law, was under the administration of Tisuka TakaNgwane.
