LUDZIDZINI – Ladies and gentlemen, the new Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini is Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.

The MTN Eswatini chief executive officer (CEO) is the man that the nation, for the first time in history, helped His Majesty King Mswati III identify as the most appropriate candidate for the position.

Before announcing the appointment yesterday at the Ludzidzini Cattle Byre during the last day of Sibaya – the highest policy and advisory council of the nation – His Majesty acknowledged the role played by the nation in identifying the new PM.

The King said this was a good thing because it was unusual yet in the past, the King appointed someone without the nation knowing what the individual was capable of. “I believe that everyone here rated the speakers who made presentations and gave them marks according to what they said.

This has helped the King ensure that the person he appoints has the nation’s approval. Again, the country knows and heard what the person has to offer instead of that individual being seen as the King’s man who is beyond reproach. We need a king’s man who is approachable and open to advise where necessary,” the King said.

His Majesty said the nation was constructive in its questioning of the candidates and praised everyone for being ‘sophisticated’ by being quick in realising what was needed of them considering that there was no civic education conducted to equip them. As he whetted the people’s appetite, the King said the person he was going to appoint must fear God, respect the nation, tackle the country’s challenges and give him peace of mind.

Further, the King said that person should be ready to work at lightning speed with the Cabinet team that is yet to be appointed. “This is a time for lightning speed because other countries are also positioning themselves to be the best in the region,” noted His Majesty.

The King said all the PM candidates who spoke during the Sibaya gave sterling presentations, which left him with a tough decision to make.
As he neared the moment of truth, the King said the nation’s prayers had helped him come to the correct decision. “The heavens told me that the person I will appoint should have your support and cooperation. You should cooperate with him so that tomorrow you don’t turn around and say the King gave you someone who knows nothing. Therefore, the individual you are being blessed with today is Mandvulo Dlamini,” the King said to resounding shouts of Bayethe!

who’s mandvulo?

But this seemed to leave many in confusion because they were not familiar with the name ‘Mandvulo’.
However, those in the know began to shout ‘it’s Ambrose, the MTN man’.
For a moment, it appeared no one was aware where ‘Mandvulo’ was seated and His Majesty the King was seen asking those seated next to him where the newly-appointed PM was.
