MBABANE – The alleged actions of one police officer have put the whole organisation in the spotlight.

The public through social media platforms, in particular Facebook, has jumped at the police force’s ‘throat’ about the incident which happened at Florence Christian Academy on Monday. This is the incident where a police officer was allegedly found in a compromising position with a Form II pupil in one of the teachers’ houses at the school.

Facebook users bashed the police and alleged that the purported actions of the law enforcer were typical of the whole force. Others went to the extent of saying they would not be surprised if some pupils dropped out of school next year due to pregnancies.

Expecting

They shared that they were expecting such conduct from the law enforcers from the beginning, adding that they believed there were more cases which were yet to be made public.

“It is time to question the Police Academy if it produces quality police to protect the nation,” one user posted. Others called for the removal of all police officers stationed in the various schools.

Government, through the Ministry of Education and Training, took a decision to deploy police officers to all schools in the country which are writing external examinations to ensure that the exams continued unhindered.

This, after there were suspicions that teachers may sabotage the external exams as part of their impasse with government regarding the ongoing dispute over the Cost of Living Adjustment (CoLA).

Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) Secretary General Mduduzi Gina said if the allegations about the police officer were true, it was criminal of him to have been found in a compromising position with the pupil.

Gina said if the police officer was given specific instructions on what was expected of him at the school when deployed there and then violated same, disciplinary action had to be taken. He said the officer had to protect the pupils but they have since become exposed.
