LIQOQO’S PRINCESS MAXINE PASSES ON

MBABANE – Yet another Royal family member has passed on in Princess Maxine.


The last born of King Sobhuza II and Inkhosikati laFakudze succumbed to kidney failure on Sunday afternoon.
Princess Maxine had been admitted to a hospital in Pretoria, South Africa for about two months.
She died aged 51, just 16 days before her birthday. The royal family member was born on December 12, 1966.


Acting Ludzidzini Governor Lusendvo Fakudze confirmed the sad news in a brief interview with this publication.
“Yes, it is true that the princess has passed on; that is what I have been informed for now,” Fakudze said.


The acting Ludzidzini Governor said details were still scanty as he had been informed that the princess succumbed to the illness on Sunday.
Fakudze said he was still to get details on the date the royal family member would be laid to rest.


Princess Maxine, according to a royal family member, had been having trouble with her kidneys and lungs.
She said in recent months, the princess had been in and out of hospital due to the retinal challenges.


The family member said the princess had left behind two siblings in her household.
The two siblings she is survived by are appointed Member of Parliament Princess Phumelele and Prince Mguqiso.

In her lifetime, the princess served in a number of prominent positions in the country’s political structure. She was once senator and a Civil Service Commission (CSC) Board member.
At the time of her demise, she was part of the Eswatini (Swaziland) National Council, also known as Liqoqo.
In 2013, the princess was the recipient of Eswatini’s 45th Independence medals.
This was when 352 members of the society were bestowed with historic honours.
Some of the recipients who were bestowed with the medals and have passed include former Prime Minister Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini, and Prince Phoqumtsetfo, businessman and football administrator Victor Gamedze, among others.

Meanwhile, members of the royal family are laid to rest in the early hours, in especially reserved burial grounds which are an enclosure on a mountain top.
Some members of the royal family who have passed on this year include Inkhosikati laMasango.
Her death shook the nation and the news of her demise went viral on social media sites like Facebook. 
The mother of two daughters, joined the royal household in 2000.
