MINISTERS NOW USING GOVT CARS

LOBAMBA – Cabinet ministers are now being chauffeured in normal government cars while others are using ones borrowed from His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS).

This means government will no longer part with E36 000 for the car rental per day.
The money was spent on 12 of the rented Toyota Forturners which had been used by cabinet ministers since they were sworn into office.

The cars have since been returned to the Central Transport Administration (CTA) pending their return to Woodford Car Hire where they were rented.
At around 1pm, only one of the 12 rented cars was still being used by a minister. This was the Minister of Public Service Christian Ntshangase.
When asked about the car registered HS41HSGP, Ntshangase said he was expecting another vehicle from the CTA.

He said the arrangement was that he would get another car as the rented ones were to be taken back.
“I was shocked to learn that I was the only one left with the rented car after my colleague received a Trailblazer this morning. (Nami besengesaba kutsi ngimi ngedvwa lesengisele nalemoto lena),” he said.

However, the minister disclosed that the rented car would be returned in the afternoon.
“The rented car has been returned to the CTA. I am using a trailblazer as I speak now,” he said when called later.

Other politicians arrived in motor vehicles belonging to their ministries. These included the Minister of Education and Training Lady Howard Mabuza, who arrived in a grey double cab belonging to her ministry.
The Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala came in an Izuzu double cab belonging to his ministry. When asked about the car, the minister said he got it from the CTA. “I think it depends on which car was available at the moment,” he said briefly.
A white double cab Isuzu was found parked at the space reserved for the Minister of Health.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thulisile Dladla arrived in a navy blue BMW belonging to her ministry. A white Trailblazer was found parked at the space reserved for the minister of Public Works and Transport.
It was a different case with other ministers as they were brought to Parliament in Trailblazers belonging to His Majesty’s Correctional Services.
These included the Minister of Sport Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Prince Simelane and Minister of Labour and Social Security Makhosi Vilakati.
General Commissioner of His Majesty’s Correctional Services Isaiah Mzuthini Ntshangase said it had become a norm that organisations assisted with cars since they belonged to one government.
Ntshangase said the service had lent the CTA four trailblazers so that they could be distributed to the ministers during the fiscal challenges.
