MBABANE – The late Reverend Kaiser Fakudze envisioned his church growing in leaps and bounds, however, the worship house has turned into a battle field.

Reverend Fakudze, who passed away in 2016, was the sole administrator of the church. The Metropolitan Evangelical Church International, which was known to be united under the leadership of reverend Fakudze, has been divided following a fight over leadership. So serious is the situation that pastors and some congregants within the place of worship have formed two opposing factions with their eye on one thing; rightful authority to lead the church. A faction led by Bhekisisa Dlamini has since taken the church and 12 members, who hold themselves as the rightful leadership of the church, to the High Court. Other applicants in the matter are Israel Mngomezulu, Njabulo Ntshangase, Sipho Kunene, Grace Ngcamphalala and Sibusiso Maseko.

Vote

The application by Bhekisisa and the other applicants comes after a vote of no confidence was passed against them during the church’s annual conference on November 23, 2018 resulting in them being removed from office. Bhekisisa and the five others want the court to declare as unlawful and set aside the decision of Metropolitan Evangelical Church International taken on November 23, 2018 removing them as members of the church’s board.

They are further seeking an order declaring as unlawful, the appointment and/or selection of Ben Tsabedze, Sifiso Dlamini, Musa Hlophe, Themba Ngcamphalala, Nelisiwe Nkabinde, Bhekinkhosi Gamedze, Sithembiso Nxumalo, Catherine Zondo, Ntombifuthi Sibandze, Anthony Matsenjwa, Simon Mshayisa, Sydney Nkambule and Dumisa Dlamini as board members of the church. The applicants are also praying for an order removing Simon Mashiya and Dumisa Dlamini as president and vice president, respectively. They are further praying for an order resonating them as members of the board of the Metropolitan Evangelical Church.
