MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has extended the contract of HMCS Commissioner General Mzuthini Ntshangase indefinitely.
This was done through a Legal Notice signed by the Attorney General, Sifiso  Mafelenkhosini Mashampu Khumalo.

According to Legal Notice No.241 of 2018, the appointment of Mzuthini Isaiah Ntshangase as Commissioner General of Correctional Services is with effect from January 2, 2019 ‘until further notice’.

If further reads “In exercise of the of the powers conferred by Section 129 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Eswatini Act, 2005 read with Section 11 of the Interpretation Act, 1970, His Majesty King Mswati III, King and Ingwenyama of the Kingdom of Eswatini extends the term of office of Mzuthini Isaiah Ntshangase,”.

In June 2014, the King promoted Ntshangase to be the Commissioner General during the Correctional Services Day and pass-out parade.
The King then had explained that the country had to introduce new ranks in order to be in line with the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) structures. He said he did not want the local Correctional Services to find itself different from those in the region.

The King said after a study was conducted and a report compiled it was found that there were strategies and structures that could uplift the standard of the Correctional Services. He had also added that there was a need to appoint a commissioner general in order for the service to be consistent with the nomenclature of other jurisdictions in the continent.
Ntshangase had previously been commissioner before he was elevated to commissioner general.
The commissioner general currently earns a basic salary of E51 676.42, including other benefits which include a housing benefit, Correctional Service allowance and an entertainment allowance of E150.
Ntshangase could not be reached for comment on his contract extension.
