Boyane – The car belonging to Dolly Mlangeni, the nurse that was found dead in her house at Hlatikhulu has been found.

Dolly was found unresponsive in her rented flat situated in New Town, one of the residential areas of Hlatikhulu. Her body was found wrapped in a towel along the passage on Thursday afternoon.
Her police officer boyfriend, Constable Sibusiso Shongwe, is wanted by the police for questioning on the matter, as he was the last person to have entered and exited her house, according to neighbours.
Coincidentally, the car, a Toyota Rush, was found yesterday morning abandoned in a forest at New Town near Boyane in the Manzini region.

The forest is situated about a kilometre from Shongwe’s parental homestead. New Town is situated near Dolly’s parental homestead which is at Boyane.
According to sources, the car was discovered in the morning, as people in the neighbourhood noticed the sun rays reflecting on some object in the forest. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that it was Dolly’s car.
The car was abandoned a few metres from the road.

Friends and relatives of the two gathered around the forest where a search was conducted yesterday afternoon by the police who were led by Manzini Regional Crime Branch Officer (RCBO) Superintendent Clement Sihlongonyane. The car was then towed away by a government registered vehicle.

People from the area allege that Shongwe had been driving around in the car since Wednesday. They alleged that yesterday he was seen driving his own car at a nearby bar in the company of some female friends.
“The matter shocked all of us. He was a good guy. When we saw him driving the car, we were not suspicious as we had not heard the story. He left the bar when he saw a police vehicle driving around,” a community member said.
Dolly’s uncle, who had been sent by the Mlangeni family to observe what was happening where the vehicle was found, said he could not talk as the family had not mandated him to.

He said the family was shocked at what had happened to their daughter. He said the family also sent him to Hlatikhulu to fetch Dolly’s corpse from the flat, and he was shocked by what he saw. The uncle said Dolly’s head was swollen and was dark. “It was apparent that she had been strangled,” he said.
He also said he could recognise her because he knew her really well. He also said they were expecting her to return home for Christmas, but she never came. When quizzed whether he knew Shongwe, the uncle said the family did not know him at all. “I don’t even know him despite that he lives in the same area,” he said.

altercation at funeral

However, two of Dolly’s cousins said they saw him at a funeral about two months back. They claimed that Dolly and Shongwe had an altercation outside the Mlangeni homestead, and they just thought they were just having a lovers’ tiff. “Dolly had not formally introduced him to the family,” they said.

Dolly’s uncle described Shongwe as being ruthless. “Yesterday, he was driving around in her car in the area in the company of other women. That is so ruthless,” he said.
He further alleged that Shongwe had been to a party at the Matsapha Police College on Thursday, still driving Dolly’s car.
He explained that Dolly’s neighbour at Hlatikhulu told them that on Wednesday, she had seen Dolly’s car outside her flat, together with a VW Golf belonging to Shongwe. She said this was in the morning, and when she returned to her house both cars were gone. The uncle said this meant that Shongwe had found someone else to drive his car away.

Meanwhile, Dolly’s mother asked this reporter through a phone call not to come near the Mlangeni homestead, as she was extremely angry.
“I am angry my child. I am not angry at the Times of Swaziland, I am angry at what occurred,” she said.
By the time this report was compiled, Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni said Shongwe had not been arrested yet, and investigations were still ongoing.
