MBABANE – Despite the challenges faced by the education sector, first time scholars seemed oblivious of the situation.

Following the endless predicaments such as the non-payment of free primary education (FPE) grants to some schools, as well as non-delivery of food, schools proceeded to open for the first term and the excitement among Grade Is was immeasurable.

Smiles were seen on the faces of most Grade I pupils, who seemed to be unbothered by the frustrations outlined by their head teachers.
When this reporter visited SAGM Primary School, the pupils were over the moon and even posed for pictures upon seeing the camera. The pupils were already in class and seemed ready and eager to start their lessons. The teachers were seen getting to know their new learners as they shared classroom rules and routines.

Herman Gmeigner Primary School pupils were also happy and excited to begin their first day. They were found seated in their classrooms and being introduced to their teachers.

It was all cheers as pupils seemed delighted to attend school on the first day at St Mark’s Primary. Two pupils by the name of Lwandle Fumo and Asandze Mabuza, were seen already munching on their balanced home prepared lunch from their lunchboxes. When asked why they were already feasting on their meals, they answered that they were hungry.

“I could not wait until break time for my food,” said little Lwandle.
Meanwhile, Asandze mentioned that he would leave some of his packed meal for break time.
The two friends mentioned that they were happy to be in school and were looking forward to having more friends.
They said their mothers had prepared their lunchboxes and expressed their radiance and care freeness from the way they quickly went away to play.
Moreover, when this publication visited Mangwaneni Primary School, pupils were fine-tuned and were seen already adapting to their new environment.
However, some pupils could not contain their sadness at their parents left them behind.
One pupil seemed bothered by the fact that she would stay behind as her mother left her for work. The first grader was seen rather in a gloomy mood.
At Qedusizi Primary School, admissions for Grade I were found in progress as the pupils were going through interviews. They were interviewed before they were allocated seats. The two classes (Grade I A and B) were not even half full when this reporter arrived at the school yesterday.
One class teacher was found marking the interview answer scripts and said pupils would be assessed according to their capabilities and then taken into the different streams.
