MANZINI - A family of a six-year-old boy was left shattered after he was allegedly killed by his 21-year-old aunt who strangled him to death with a waist belt.
The incident, which left many with a number of unanswered questions, allegedly took place inside an office at Simunye yesterday.

A well-placed source alleged that the woman was walking with two children, including her six-year-old nephew, when the incident took place.
He said while they were walking, the aunt entered an office with his nephew while the other child waited outside.

“It is not clear what happened inside but the aunt was heard calling the police to report that she had just strangled her nephew to death,” the source said.

Shocked

He said when the police, who responded promptly to the call, arrived at the scene, the aunt, who was visibly shocked, told them that she did not know what happened. “In fact, she told the police that kuvele kwatsi khwishi,” the source alleged.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident. She said police were still investigating the matter and mentioned that the aunt was still with the law enforcers as she was assisting them with information regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Clinical Psychologist Ndo Mdlalose said things like this do happen. She said even though she might not know what really took place, she suspected that the woman suffered from a psychotic episode or projection.

Psychotic

She said when one suffered from a psychotic episode, that individual could have too many issues in his/her life. She said in this case, if the woman suffered from a psychotic episode, maybe the nephew did something silly and all her issues flooded her mind such that she did not even know what she was doing.
On the other hand, the clinical psychologist said when an individual suffered from projection, it meant that that person had buried a lot of issues in his/her mind yet it was affecting him/her emotionally.

“When those issues come out, it can affect the next person because one can lose his mind for a moment,” she said.
Therefore, the clinical psychologist advised individuals that if they happened to go through something, they should seek help by simply talking about it to close people.

“People should not be embarrassed by talking about their issues,” she said.
Moreover, Mdlalose reminded people that stress could not be kept for long because when it got out, it could lead an in individual into an emotional roller-coaster because the mind would get disturbed.
