BISHOP MASEKO’S CHURCH SYMBOL AROUSES CURIOSITY

MATSAPHA – Is it a Christian symbol, Jewish or the infamous 666? A symbol composed of two overlaid equilateral triangles forming a six-pointed star appears on walls and stones at Bishop Enock Maseko’s New Covenant of Jesus Christ Ministries in Matsapha.

It is causing confusion and raising eyebrows among Christians and passers-by as they associate it with the number ‘666’, the mark of the anti-Christ.
Maseko, a military officer by profession, and founder of the church, is behind the inscription of the symbol, which is known as the ‘Star of David’. He did not permit the newsmen to photograph the symbol, which lies on almost all the buildings at his church.

Haaret, an Israeli newspaper founded in 1918, carried philosophical and theological research on the Star of David, which is also called the hexagram.
Researchers as reported by the newspaper stated that the Star of David, which is recognised by Bishop Maseko’s church, is also used by other religions. They say it has nothing to do with Christianity.

In Hinduism, it is referred to as the shatkona, with the upward triangle in the star shape representing Shiva (the masculine side of God) and the downward-pointing triangle representing Shakti (the feminine side of the divinity). The symbol thus generally represents the merging of the male and the female, and, the elements of fire and water, respectively.

The Star of David also appears in the architecture of Mormon places of worship, where it symbolises the union of heaven and earth, with God reaching down to man and the man reaching up to the Almighty.  In his bestselling book titled ‘The Conspiracy of the six-pointed star’, theologian Texe Marrs argued over the number of triangles on the star. “Count also the number of outer points of the star and the number of lines of the hexagon within the star. Do you not come up with the numbers ‘six-six-six’, he asked in his book.

It must be revealed here that some local worshippers and concerned members of the public do not understand the meaning of the symbol, and have associated it with the number ‘666’ or the pentagram of the Illuminati.
The pentagram is a five-pointed star constructed of five intersecting lines meeting at the vertices, such that a central pentagon and five surrounding isosceles triangles are formed; often with magical connotations.

It is different from the Star of David, except that. Most of the theologians associate 666 with the anti-Christ – the mark of the beast as stated in Revelation 13:17. They say the Antichrist does not have to be a Jew. And, in fact, the Bible makes it clear that he will be a Gentile but his right hand man will be a Jew to be known as the false prophet.

Bishop Enock Maseko, a renowned soldier and founder of the New Covenant of Jesus Christ Ministries in Matsapha, said the symbol was known as the Star of David, and was also used by the state of Israel.
“The flag of Israel bears the same symbol. The Star of David symbolises victory, and this is the same symbol used by the biblical Isaac when he conquered his enemies,” he said.

He decried ignorance as being the cause for misunderstanding and misconceptions about the symbol. He lamented the fact that some people associated it with evil such as 666.
