PUPIL STABS MAN AS TICKET TO VULAMASANGO?
MBABANE – Did his desire to be enrolled at Vulamasango High School drive him to commit a crime?
The former Mhlatane High School pupil, who was allegedly denied a place at Vulamasango, has been arrested again.
He appeared at the Pigg’s Peak Magistrates Court where he was found guilty and sentenced to 16 months imprisonment with a fine option of E1 600. He was found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he admitted to stabbing Alfred Mamba with a knife. Half of the sentence was, however, suspended for a period of one year.
Sethu Njabulo Mavuso (21) was out on bail for another charge of attempted murder when he committed this offence.
He is presently embroiled in a legal battle with the Commissioner General of His Majesty’s Correctional Services, Isaiah Mzuthini Ntshangase, after he was denied a place at the school.
The matter is awaiting judgment by the High Court.
In an interview yesterday Sethu’s mother Nomthandazo Dlamini said had Ntshangase admitted her son to the school, he would not have committed the offence.
Dlamini said her son’s desire was to continue with his studies.
She said; “Inhlitiyo yakhe isekuchubekeni nekufundza,”
In his application, Mavuso asserted that the school’s authorities informed him that there was no space for non-custodial persons and that they only admitted pupils who were in custody.
During the argument of the matter, Ntshangase averred that the Correctional Services tried by all means to advise those who had bail options to utilise them rather than sit inside the prison walls.
Mavuso, who was doing Form IV at Mhlatane High School, decided to seek legal recourse against the commissioner general after he was reportedly denied a place at Vulamasango High School.
