550 COP POSTS SHOULD BE FILLED – MP MARWICK
LOBAMBA - There are about 550 vacant posts within the Royal Eswatini Police Services and these should be filled.
This was the view of Lobamba Lomdzala MP Marwick Khumalo who said the police service was an integral part for the smooth running of the country.
MP Khumalo told the Prime Minister (PM) Ambrose Dlamini, that according to his research, the vacant posts were caused by those who had retired, taken retirement on medical grounds and those who were deceased.
MP Khumalo said he was not suggesting that the REPS undergoes a recruitment exercise, but to fill in a gaps in the police service by putting people who were already part of the service through promotions or other placements.
Debate
This was during the debate of the PMs Office end-of-year report by the House of Assembly Portfolio Committee which was chaired by Mpolonjeni MP Jacob Siwela.
The MP said this would not strain the wage bill because the ones who had vacated the positions had already been on the government payroll.
The MP who delved a lot on the police portfolio, also asked the PM what had gone wrong with the police officers because they had turned into murderers and thieves.
He said if a woman dumped a police officer, then she was sure to get murdered.
MP Khumalo said there were many allegations made against the police and asked the PM if they were true.
“Do you think we now need a police vice to watch over the same police officers who are supposed to protect us? “ wondered Khumalo.
The MP said the police were further implicated in dagga raids as it was believed that some of them would also smoke it afterwards.
Khumalo further stated that police would raid bars and instead of keeping the alcohol to be disposed of later, they would instead hold their own parties and celebrate.
He wondered what had gone wrong as veteran police were currently on good behaviour.
On another note, the MP suggested that the government vehicle Anti Abuse Unit should be handed over to the police as they were located all over the country.
