4 VICTIMS OF HORROR CRASH IDENTIFIED
ZONDWAKO – The four victims of the fatal crash which happened along the Bhunya/Malutha MR19 Road on Saturday morning have been identified.
The deceased persons are Sandile Dludlu and Sidumo Maseko, who are cousins, Sabelo Sibeko and Zodwa Ntfombi Lokotfwako.
Lokotfwako is the only adult person, who was travelling with the young men known to be soccer players and friends in the area. She is the mother of the driver, Thabiso Dlamini, who survived the crash.
Narrating the events, Mathokoza Dludlu, who is the father of one of the deceased persons, said the family was devastated over what had befallen them.
Relative
Dludlu said adding salt to the injury was that there was a relative who was sick and had died on Friday at around 11pm.
He said while he was at the Umphakatsi to report the matter, he received a call about the two boys (Sandile and Sidumo) that they were involved in a fatal crash and had also passed away.
According to Dludlu, the cousins were from accompanying the driver, who happens to be their friend, to the funeral of an extended family member.
He attributed the accident to have been a result of high speed and fatigue. Dludlu said information gathered was that the friends enjoyed alcoholic drinks at a watering hole in Bhunya where they stayed almost the entire night before proceeding to the funeral.
“A five-litre container which had buganu was found at the accident scene together with beer bottles,” he said.
Dludlu said the driver of the car was travelling at a high speed and overtook cars along the road and he failed to negotiate a corner at D4 along Bhunya/Malutha Road.
Further, he said they had ascertained that the car had faulty brakes. “The car was borrowed from a neighbour by the driver as his car was currently at the garage where it is being attended to,” said Dludlu. He said they intended to arrange a combined funeral for the three people who had passed away at the homestead.
Dludlu said the third person was his sister, who passed away following an undisclosed illness, while the two were the cousins who were victims of the fatal crash.
Dludlu said the family was still deliberating on the funeral arrangements, and the burial could probably take place on Sunday.
The third victim of the crash, Sibeko was last seen by his relatives on Friday morning before they heard of his demise the following day.
His grandmother, who was found at the homestead, said they were at a loss for words as he had left behind a very young wife and one child.
Female
Meanwhile, Philemon Dlamini said he had lost a mother in the crash, who was the only female passenger.
Dlamini said he also attended the funeral, but was using a different vehicle. “I was shocked to learn that my mother had passed away at around 10am as we were together.”
He said his mother died on the spot.
