MBABANE - Murder suspect Lucky ‘Obama’ Matsenjwa has punched holes in the report that was compiled by a South African communication analyst, who examined the cellphones that were seized from him and Ngcebo Vermaak, among other people.

The gadgets were examined by Lieutenant Colonel Letuba Jack Ramonana, who is stationed at the Cyber-Crime and Deep Web Investigation, Detective Head Office. He has recently been promoted to the Head Office of the Hawks.

Ramonana stated that there was a call that was allegedly made by Vermaak to a number that was used by Matsenjwa, 7602 5381 at 11:15pm on May 12, 2017.
Through his attorney, Advocate Lucas Maziya, who has been instructed by Sipho Gumedze and Noncedo Ndlangamandla, Matsenjwa labelled Ramonana’s report as a fabrication.

Matsenjwa said at 11:15pm, his cellphone was no longer in his possession but in the possession of one Musa Dlamini.
Ramonana confirmed that he had said there was a phone call that was made by Vermaak to 7602 5381 at 11:15pm.
During cross-examination, Advocate Maziya put it to Ramonana that Matsenjwa had informed him that at the time mentioned by the communication analyst, the accused was not in possession of the phone.

Activity

He submitted that the last activity on his phone was at 8:40pm as per a printout by Eswatini MTN.
In response, Ramonana said the data showed that there was an incoming call to the cellphone not that a particular number called another number. Advocate Maziya said whether there was a call that came in, it meant nothing because by that time, Matsenjwa was not in possession of the cellphone.

“Even Vermaak never said he called that number (7602 5381) at the time of the night,” said the advocate.
Ramonana’s response was that MTN could clarify that because the service provider would be able to show which SIM card was used when the call was made and not the data on the phone.

Maziya wondered why MTN could not detect the said call he was referring to and Ramonana said MTN was better-placed to respond to that.
Advocate Maziya went on to say Eswatini MTN did not show if there was communication at the time mentioned by Ramonana.

Enquired

The advocate enquired from Ramonana which was better to go with between the printout from MTN and what is contained in his report.
“Why is your report different from what the service provider printed? I am expecting to find the same communication from MTN as in your report. You have manufactured what is in your report,” he said.
