ESWATINI MUSLIM COMMUNITY STEPS UP
MBABANE – Asian Muslims in Eswatini have stepped up to help Mozambique Cyclone Idai victims.
A large number of Muslim businesspeople who operate various enterprises have donated a total of E42 000 for the cause in Mozambique.
Mohsim Buhuro, the owner of Select Mobile, said when he saw on the news that Mozambique was flooded after the cyclone, he decided to speak to many Muslims in the kingdom and requested them to contribute any amount of money to assist the cyclone victims.
“When I calculated all the money, it came up to E42 000.”
Jabbir Bhagabhai also commented and said: “I thought it imperative to help because Almighty Allah says in the Qu’ran that we should have mercy on others so that He has mercy on us.
“A time like this avails a real opportunity for someone to help the next person. Even the Bible says the same. That is why we asked how we could help people who have been affected by such a disaster. If I am eating in my house and my neighbour is hungry, desperate with no house and food, the Qur’an asks how you can be happy when others are not happy.”
The money was donated through the Times of Swaziland and will be used to purchase many essentials for the cyclone victims.
Blankets
These items include blankets, pots and buckets, among many others.
The local Muslim community joins reputable other companies which have also stood up to be counted among those who have given a helping hand to the cyclone victims.
The newspaper’s News Editor, Cassandra Shaw, appreciated the kind gesture from the Muslim community.
“We have opened our hands for any person or organisation to provide help for this good cause. The people of Eswatini are lucky that they did not experience the effects of the cyclone and as a neighbouring country, it is important that we show solidarity with our Mozambican brothers and sisters,” she said.
