MBABANE- It would seem some residents of Manzini tolerate the crowing of roosters but cannot stand the noise from churches.
Some residents of Manzini have called upon those who conduct church services to reduce the noise in the city.

Relax

The concerned residents, especially those who relax at their homesteads and guest houses on Sundays, claimed that they were disturbed by the loud noise each time they tried to try to find peace during weekends, especially on Sundays. Their concern comes after some residents of the same city complained roosters whch crow day in and day out.

“We are grateful that the Manzini Municipality has shown its concern on the residents who don’t keep roosters which make noise in some parts of the town. We believe that it is high time the municipality addressed the issue of churches which make loud noise with their musical instruments from as early as 7am until late on Sundays,” said some of the concerned residents.

The affected residents stated that they lived at Coates Valley and Madonsa where some churches were closer to their homesteads and guest houses. “Something must be done about the noisy churches,” they reiterated. Mathokoza Thwala, the Public Relations Officer of the Manzini Municipality, said the law governing towns prohibited any form of noise, be it from homesteads, churches or liquor outlets.

Thwala said it was for that reason that the municipality hired a security company to attend to emergencies reported to the town authorities.
“We have a toll a free number 8002004 which operate 24 hours. We also have another number 2505 7000, which is reachable through landline and cellphones to make sure all emergencies are attended to as soon as they are reported,” Thwala said.

He urged the city residents to call the office for a quick response should anyone violate their rights. He said the municipality hired the security company to make sure that city laws were adhered to.
It is not the first time people complained about loud noise from churches.

Recently, Judge Titus Mlangeni filed an urgent application seeking an order to interdict a nearby church disturbing his peace. This was after the church held an all night prayer near the judge’s homestead. In his application, the judge put it to the attention of the court that the church members were praying so loud that he even heard the exact words of their prayer in the middle of the night.
