MBABANE – Donations for the Cyclone Idai victims continue to pour in.

Yesterday, a community and a businessman showed generosity and offered a helping hand.
The businessman, Siboniso Shongwe, is an airtime vendor.

His donation came in the form of tinned food, soap, toothpaste, salt, noodles and soup to the value of E124.34.
He delivered the goods to the Manzini Times of Swaziland offices.

When asked for a comment, he said he had wished to give more but that he was affected by the fact that the country’s economy had been stringent and his flow of customers was not the same anymore.

H said: “If I had it my way, I would ask the government to give civil servants the cost-of- living-adjustment (CoLA) they are asking for. I am unemployed and working as an airtime vendor, selling Eswatini Mobile airtime in Manzini. If they got CoLA, they would come and support me by buying airtime. If that had been the case, I would have brought items to the value of E500. But this was all I had.”

The other donation came from 10 men from Ekuvinjelweni community in Nkomazi, Pigg’s Peak, who donated bags of rice, sugar and clothing to the value of E1 300.
Joshua Magongo, the man who delivered the goods, said the men were touched by the plight of the people of Mozambique.

“What happened in Mozambique is sad as this was a natural occurrence, something that could have happened anywhere, including in Eswatini. When we saw your campaign, we got together and donated what we had. We feel giving in good faith is like planting seeds, we hope if the same happened to us, they would step in and help us too.”
