DID LATE DETECTIVE SOLO HAVE TWO WIVES?
MBABANE – “I was also his lawfully wedded wife.”A woman of Bhunya has emerged to claim that she was also the lawful wife of the late top detective Solomon Mavuso.
During his lifetime, Mavuso was known to be married to one woman, Phumzile Dlamini, who is employed by Shoprite Supermarket in Mbabane.
His obituary also reflected that he was married to Phumzile.
The crack detective died at the age of 49 after succumbing to heart and kidney-related illnesses.
Nana Tsabedze, who claims to have been Mavuso’s rightful wife, has since taken Phumzile to court.
compel
She wants the court to compel the respondent (Phumzile) to release a copy of Mavuso’s death certificate, copy of his national identity card and a copy of her (Phumzile) marriage certificate to Mavuso.
In her application, Tsabedze submitted that on November 21, 2010, she got married to the late Mavuso, through Swazi Law and Custom.
According to the applicant (Tsabedze), two children were born out of the union between her and Mavuso.
“During the lifetime of my late husband, he supported me and his children and I was introduced to his whole family. Upon his death, his brothers were siding with Phumzile; that is to say, they were alleging that I am not a wife to their deceased brother,” submitted Tsabedze.
She asserted that in or about the month of August 2015, together with the late Mavuso, they started the process of obtaining a marriage certificate.
Tsabedze claimed that the process was almost finished at the time Mavuso met his death.
requested
“Upon his death, I requested that I be furnished with a copy of my late husband’s national identity card, the death certificate and a copy of her (Phumzile) marriage certificate to our late husband,” alleged the applicant.
She narrated that in or about the month of February 2019, they (Phumzile and Tsabedze) and Mavuso’s brothers approached the Mbabane Magistrates Court for a peace- binding. Tsabedze explained that the purpose of the peace-binding was to try and find amicable ways in which her children could be assisted as most of the documents relating to their late father were not in her possession at the time of his death.
She claimed that all the documents were with Phumzile.
Tsabedze said the court had instructed that she be given the necessary documents to enable her children to also benefit from their late father’s estate.
Phumzile, according to the applicant, pretended as if all the requirements were to be handed over to her (applicant).
She alleged that those documents had not been handed over to her.
“I have started the process of claiming for my children and at the SNPF, I have been advised to get a marriage certificate, which will be used to show that I was legally married to the late Solomon Sipho Mavuso,” averred Tsabedze.
veracity
These are allegations contained in an affidavit whose veracity is still to be tested in court and Phumzile is yet to file her papers.
Tsabedze went on to tell the court that on March 24, 2019, she received a call from the Mbabane Police Station, wherein she was advised to avail herself for the collection of certain documents, which had her name and that of the late Mavuso.
Tsabedze said she availed herself and she was allegedly given an original copy of the application for a marriage certificate.
