ENTERPRISING LISWATI BRINGS WI-FI IN BUSES
MBABANE – Emaswati will be treated to the experience of internet galore when on board buses to their different destinations.
This was according to Simiso Masilela, who came up with the whole initiative.
According to Masilela, he came up with the idea when he was working for a metal company in Nelspruit as an IT technician.
He said when his contract ended, he started a research on how he could ensure that passengers enjoyed internet connection while travelling to their various destinations, adding that it took him quality time and money since he started it last year April.
Plan
After completing the whole plan, he then approached bus owners including Intamakuphila, Phinduvuke and Khombindlela Express to share his idea.
“They liked my idea and gave me their buses to test if it was going to work,” added Masilela.
It was then that he approached one of the network providers to use as the official internet service provider.
“As the Government of Eswatini encourages young people to start businesses to reduce the rate of unemployment and boost our economy, I came up with this idea of mobile Wi-Fi in public transport vehicles,” narrated Masilela.
He stated that he discovered that internet was everyone’s daily need and that Eswatini was in need of being connected like other well-developed countries which included China, Qatar, and USA among others.
Masilela went on to state that in Africa, the initiative was only in Botswana and Gauteng Province in South Africa.
“Nami ngibone kutsi ete sasala natsi ngentfutfuko sibe siya kuye Vision 2022,” stated Masilela in vernacular.
Passengers will have the privilege to connect to all social media networks, check emails and browse various internet sites.
“So far, there are 15 buses from different routes in the country that already have the Wi-Fi,” said the young entrepreneur.
