BOY PRESENTS KING WITH E50 FOR AIRTIME
LOZITHA – While some pupils save their pocket money for trivial pleasures, it was a different case for a young boy who used his as a gift to the King.
Sobethu Ntshangase (14) who resides at Lozitha, is the patriotic boy who gave a E50 note to the King during the presentation of gifts at Lozitha Royal Palace last Wednesday. Initially, Sobethu had raised E20 but his mother gave him E30 to add to his gift.
The last-born in his family has been described as a responsible young man. When this reporter arrived at his homestead, he was cleaning his room and his mother called him. With a bright and shy smile, he exchanged pleasantries with this reporter before settling down for the interview in the presence of his mother. “I had planned for the King’s gift for quite some time and when the announcement for the presentation of the King’s gifts was made, I knew that it was my time to go there and present mine,” the boy stated coyly.
Inspired
When asked what had inspired him to present a gift to the King, the valiant boy said it was purely out of his love and respect for the King. He stated that he wished the King would use the money to buy airtime, in order to make important calls. So intense is the boy’s love for the King and the Eswatini culture, that he mentioned that he was part of umgubho, a group where boys come together to sing cultural songs and dance. When asked how his experience of meeting the King was, Sobethu said it was the best moment in his life. “It was exceptionally out of this world. My knees were shaking and my heart beat so fast, but I said to myself it was my moment and I had to face my King,” the thoughtful boy narrated. Explaining the process before he went to present his gift, Sobethu said he first requested for permission at school to go to the palace for tetfulo. This is the process of presentation of gifts to the King.
He stated that he was granted the permission by his class teacher and quickly went home and found a presentable envelope which he addressed it to His Majesty, with the E50 note inside. When the hour came to present the gift to the King, Sobethu said he was ordered to go forward and that was when he felt his knees shaking. Nonetheless, he mentioned that he went straight to His Majesty and shook his hand. Sobethu highlighted that he introduced himself to the King and even told him his initiation name which is Mafikamuva. “The King is a very friendly person. He received my gift with open arms and laughed. Seeing him smile meant the world to me, it was a day I will never forget,” said Sobethu. Meanwhile, his mother Winile Dlamini said she was perplexed when his son told him that he wanted to present a gift to the King. “He came and informed me he had a E20 note to give to the King as a birthday gift,” said Dlamini.
