MBABANE – If parents were hoping for a late registration for their children’s examination payments, they should prepare to spend examination time with them at home.

This was said by Registrar of the Examinations Council of Eswatini Dr Edmund Mazibuko, who was addressing the issue of deadlines which he said were on May 31, 2019.

Late

He stated that it made no sense to allow late registration just because parents had financial issues.
This, he said, was because if the late registration was considered, it was going to come with penalties which meant more expenses.

He mentioned that deadlines for A Level and AS Level were set for June 28, and that late registrations were not going to be allowed.
He went on to state that about 67 976 pupils in total were expected to sit for the examination from the completing classes, which are Grade VII, Form III and Form V, hence the need for everything to be done on time to avoid mistakes.

Mazibuko further discouraged the act of pupils who decided to register names they got from their friends as that was going to be a problem for them in the long run.

Parents

He said they were already dealing with cases of parents who said their children could not access services because of the different names that appeared in their results, which were not in their birth certificates.

“If a pupil’s name is Andile Bhekisisa Dlamini, that individual must write as is and not Bhekisisa Andile Dlamini, not Andile ‘Mabhekzo’ or any other thing,” stated Mazibuko.

He went on to say that those with one name should also stick to that as well.
Mazibuko encouraged head teachers to engage the pupils in the confirmation process as that was going to omit instances where they were to blame for not confirming the details given by the pupils.

When asked about the issue of pupils who were registered for subjects they did not do, Mazibuko encouraged pupils to make it a point that they were clear of the subjects they were registered for and indicate on whether they were writing core or external subjects.

“If the names do not correspond, they will face a problem when it comes to being employed or awarded scholarships,” added Mazibuko.
