TEACHERS TO HOLD NATIONAL PRAYER
MANZINI – Is there some kind of ‘spirit’ that is attacking teachers in the country? This is because the Swaziland National Association of Teacher (SNAT) has organised a national prayer aimed at fighting the suspected ‘onslaught’ against teachers using the spiritual realm.
According to a statement which was released by SNAT Secretary General Sikelela Dlamini on Monday afternoon, the union will host a national prayer at SNAT Centre on Saturday at 10am.
They also want to pray for an end to high number of deaths of teachers. He said as a national executive committee of the teachers’ union, they were cognisant of the fact that there were societal and trade union issues which were affecting the general membership in a myriad of ways.
Death
He also said they had noted that the union had been going through a rough patch in recent times whereby they lost a sizable number of their members, through death.
In fact, without mentioning numbers, which he said were not readily available, Dlamini said in recent times, the union had recorded the highest number deaths in the history of the organisation.
It is worth noting that recently, the teachers’ union lost a member of the General Council (GC) committee, Njabulo ‘Njefire’ Dlamini, who died after a short illness. The secretary general said:“Truth is the challenges that confront us shall always remain permanent so long as the behaviour of those in government does not change.”
Furthermore, the secretary general said they decided to host the national prayer following the fact that as SNAT, they believed that they had been under siege from some forces in the recent past.
“We encourage the nation to attend so as to fight this onslaught in the spiritual realm as well,” he added.
Again, Dlamini said recently, a number of teachers were allegedly arrested while others were supposedly victimised by the line ministry through suspension.
On that note, it is worth mentioning that SNAT GC members Maxwell ‘Zondiyinkhundla’ Myeni and Mxolisi Ngcamphalala have pending cases in court.
Suspended
Meanwhile, recently the Ministry of Education and Training suspended SNAT President Mbongwa Dlamini and John Hoffman, who was the teachers’ union elections committee member in Manzini Branch. They are both teachers at Mhubhe High School.
On another note, the secretary general said on Friday, SNAT gender officers from all committees in all levels would partake in an event wherein they would partake in the commemoration of Widows’ Day.
The event, which will be hosted by Umhluma Foundation, will be held at King Somhlolo Park, Manzini and its theme is: Protect, promote and recognise widows’ rights as human rights.
