MAN FORCES PREGNANT LOVER TO INGEST POISON
SIGOMBENI – Informing her boyfriend about her pregnancy ended in tragedy for a 21-year-old woman.
Failure to accept the fact that his girlfriend, who recently completed high school, was pregnant, is suspected to have triggered a fit rage for the boyfriend who allegedly murdered his lover and later dumped her body in a forest near his place of abode.
Mlungisi Mathatha Mhlanga, also 21, of Ngodini is alleged to have killed his lover in a fit of rage that started with a heavy assault and strangulation.
He is alleged to have further forced her to ingest a poisonous substance after assaulting her.
The incident occurred in Ngodini, an area situated near Mahlanya, in the Manzini Region.
Information gathered is that the woman, Tengetile Mamba who had just completed her Form V, was about six months pregnant when her mother, Tsabile Mamba, suspected she was pregnant.
Craving
“She immediately stopped eating the food we normally prepared and started craving junk food like yoghurt and ice cream. I later confirmed that she was pregnant,” said Tsabile.
She added; “She also requested that I bring her ochre (libovu) from the mountains, since I normally herd the family cattle.”
Apart from the cravings, Tsabile said her daughter had difficulty in wearing her church uniform which had become tighter.
She said she also noticed that her stomach was starting to bulge, an indication that she was pregnant.
At first, Tsabile said her daughter denied that she was pregnant but had abdominal and waist pains, which caused her stomach to bulge.
“As time went on, I would sit and have talks with her and she eventually opened up to me that she was actually pregnant and agreed that we should visit the doctor for a check-up. However, when the time came for us to go to the clinic, she wrote a note with information pertaining to her boyfriend’s contact details and handed it over to her father, before leaving home,” an emotional Tsabile revealed.
At the time, they did not know where she had gone to, but suspected that she might have gone to her boyfriend’s place.
Her disappearance is said to have caused tension within the Mamba homestead, as some of the family members questioned Tsabile as to why she allowed her to leave.
Tsabile said she was accused of ‘handing over daughter’ to men.
“The verbal abuse went on to a point where one family members accused me of having extra-marital affairs, and that some of the men I was involved with had abducted our daughter. I could not take it anymore and decided to leave my marital home to stay with relatives,” Tsabile said.
