PIGG’S PEAK – The woman who was stabbed in the head several times while her two children were poisoned by her husband, has also died.

On Sunday evening, Lisa Magagula (26) was stabbed by her husband Zweli Shongwe (34) but she survived this assault and was admitted to the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital.
She succumbed to her injuries yesterday morning.

Dispute

The stabbing incident is said to have happened following a long standing domestic dispute between the couple.
Lisa was rushed to the Mkhuzweni Health Centre immediately after the incident and later transferred to the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital.
Her sister, May Magagula, on Monday described Lisa as being unconscious because she had not been able to speak since the incident.

Yesterday, however, Lisa succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Her death has shocked her in-laws who were still mourning the death of their son as well as two of their grandchildren.
Jewel Shongwe, Zweli’s father, confirmed that his daughter-in-law had died.

He described the incident as another tragedy for the family following the death of the two minors and their father.

Contemplating

Jewel said the family was still contemplating on when the deceased would be laid to rest.

Under normal circumstances, a husband and wife are normally laid alongside each other next to their children.
Jewel, however, said the family was not yet sure when exactly Lisa would be laid to rest because the matter was still under police investigation.
“A post-mortem still has to be conducted before the burial,” said Jewel.

On Tuesday, this publication reported that Zweli had first stabbed his wife whom he had been accompanying while she was returning to Mbabane where she is said to have been employed at a hair salon.
While on the way, an argument ensued and he stabbed her.

Zweli then fled the scene.

He later called the police’s emergency number, where he is said to have informed them about what he had done and that his children were next and then he would kill himself.
Efforts by members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) to reach Zweli before he could harm the children were unsuccessful.

When police officers arrived at the homestead, Zweli had already forced his children to consume a pesticide, which he also ingested.
Zweli died within 10 minutes of ingesting the substance alongside his nine-year-old son Mahle (9).
His daughter Owenkhosi (7) died later while on the way to the Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital.
