NOTHANDO DANCES WITH ROYALTY

LOBAMBA – Is gospel sensation Nothando Hlophe now a member of the royal family?

This was the question on everyone’s lips yesterday, as the ‘Yebo’ singer was spotted wearing red feathers on her hair which are strictly reserved for royalty. This was during the final day of the Umhlanga Ceremony held yesterday at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. Not only that, Hlophe also danced with members of the royal family, particularly Princess Temaswati, who was the leader of the Imbali yesterday.  They were all wearing similar outfits in the sense that Hlophe’s skirt (sidvwashi) matched that of the senior princess. The skirts were a pattern of sky blue circles with tiny pink flowers. There was further speculation that Hlophe could be the next liphovela as some of her actions were similar to those undertaken by the now Inkhosikati LaMashwama before she was unveiled as liphovela. While everyone was speaking in hushed tones about Hlophe’s ‘new role’ within the royal family, Prince Majaha, one of His Majesty King Mswati III sons, seemed to answer the question.

Solo

At around 6pm during Princess Temaswati’s solo dance (kugiya), she was joined by Hlophe and other members of the royal family. However, when emazinyane (King’s children) went to appreciate the dancing of the princesses including Hlophe, Prince Majaha headed straight towards Hlophe and plucked one of the feathers from her head. This, the attendees believed, was a sign of declaring an interest in that  particular person. The pair then engaged in a short conversation and Prince Majaha turned to whisper something to his siblings to which Hlophe smiled or laughed. They then continued to dance next to each other before emazinyane returned to their seats. The song they were dancing to was called “nami ngiyalungisa, ngeke ngisale” (I am also preparing to participate, I can’t be left behind) which was a song that was popular during the 2018 National Elections.

Meanwhile, social media has been abuzz with excitement on Hlophe’s seemingly new royal standing. This went to the extent of some people citing Hlophe’s lyrics in the song ‘Yebo’ where the artist sings that she receives marriage in the spirit of godliness. “Nomshado nawo ngiyawemukela ngekukholwa,” she sings.
