MANZINI – Shocked customers have alleged to have found condoms inside sealed Parmalat Eswatini sour milk (emasi) containers.
The sour milk is packed in plastic containers.

One of the consumers, *Muntu, said he was with his wife on July 23, 2019 when they bought a two litre of the sour milk, Emasi Eselwa from a reputable outlet in Manzini. He said after they were done with their shopping, his wife went home while he proceeded to his workplace.

Porridge

“Upon arrival at home, she opened the container of sour milk and poured some into a glass. She emptied the remainder into a dish as she had prepared porridge to eat the sour milk with. That is when she noticed a foreign matter protruding from the plastic container. When she checked what it was; using a spoon to pull it out, a condom came out,” Muntu alleged.

He added that after the discovery, his wife immediately called him and when he got home, he found her with the alleged condom, crying hysterically and vomiting.

Muntu said he called the store’s superiors and informed them about the incident.   He mentioned that they (superious) arranged that he meets with them the following morning. However, he decided to go and consult with the municipal council’s health inspectors who made a decision to go with him to the popular retail store where they had bought the sour milk.

“Upon arrival at the store, the superiors called the company sales representatives who were also present on the day and they admitted it was not the first incident to have been reported to them. The sales team alleged that other incidents were reported in Big Bend and Siphofaneni. After the meeting, they said they would make a formal report to Parmalat Headquarters and further take the condom for forensics to check if it was infected, used or not,” Muntu added.
He said (alleged) the condom and sour milk were taken by officials from Parmalat who said they would furnish him with a report on the matter.

After two weeks, Muntu said Parmalat representatives gave him a full report which revealed that they suspected sabotage.
They are said to have also claimed that there was an element of negligence within their production department.

“They further stated that the results on the condom revealed that it did not have any infections as it had not been used. We have suffered severe trauma because of the incident and my wife no longer eats sour milk, emasi nje akafuni nekuwabuka and this has put a financial strain on me as I have to now buy meat all the time, which is expensive,” Muntu alleged.

Attorney

He further revealed that he had consulted with his attorneys, MV Dlamini Attorneys and the matter was currently being handled by the law firm.
An attorney, Maqhawe Dlamini confirmed that they were handling Muntu’s matter and said they had already had correspondence with Parmalat.
Another affected customer claimed to have also reported the matter with Parmalat. When asked to elaborate on the incident, she said she was still traumatised and did not want to share her recent bad experience with the media or anyone.
