MANZINI - A First National Bank (FNB) employee is currently facing charges under the SODV Act and malicious injury to property after he allegedly assaulted his wife and further pulled her by the hair while she was at her place of employment.

The incident occurred on August 24, 2019, while the woman, Bongiwe Dlamini, was at her workplace situated at the Bhunu Mall.
The accused, Ndabenhle Sibusiso Nkonde (32) of Ntabamhloshana, is alleged to have further damaged vases at Dlamini’s workplace after he had allegedly attacked and assaulted her with open hands several times in the face.

The two are currently on separation after one year of marriage.

Failure

It was also gathered that the wife had taken Nkonde to court for alleged failure to pay monthly child maintenance instalments and the matter is currently being handled by Ndlangamandla Attorneys.

Before the incident occurred, Dlamini is alleged to have come across Nkonde at the Bhunu Mall underground parking, where an argument ensued.
This was after the complainant had questioned the accused on why he was allegedly driving his girlfriend’s vehicle, a Mazda Demio.

“I told him that we were still legally married and it was wrong for him to disrespect me by driving another woman’s car, but he did not listen. Instead, he hurled insults at me and further drove straight to me, bumping (sic) me with the car in the process,” the complainant alleged in statements submitted in court.

Report

Despite the alleged incident, Dlamini did not report it to the police, instead she went to her workplace and went about her duties.
A day later, the accused allegedly attacked Dlamini at around 8am when she had just reported for work.
It is alleged that he first called her and when she emerged from her office, Nkonde allegedly grabbed her by the hair and severely assaulted her in full view of customers and her colleagues.

The accused is alleged to have further grabbed vases from the store and vandalised them.
Some of the colleagues did not take kindly to his acts and allegedly retaliated and dragged him outside the premises.
Seeing that the situation had escalated, Nkonde allegedly  fled the scene.

The complainant immediately reported the assault incident to the police and her employer also opened a case of malicious injury to property against the accused. He was called to the police station and statements were recorded between all affected parties.

Nkonde was further slapped with an offence of contravening the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) act.
The charge sheet states that on August 24, 2019, at the Bhunu Mall, he assaulted Dlamini, his wife with open hands several times in the face and further pulled her by the hair.

Damaged

The accused further (allegedly) damaged vases at the complainant’s workplace valued at around E1 500 in lawful possession of Sydney Sitsebe.
Yesterday, Nkonde made a court appearance before Magistrate Simangele Mbatha and was legally represented.

His attorney, Lindelwa Mkhwanazi, informed the court there was no need to request the court for bail as his client was out of custody.

The trial for the matter was set for November 6, 2019 before Magistrate Mbatha, where all witnesses would be expected to lead evidence.
Worth noting is that the two currently have restraining orders prohibiting them from harassing each other.
