FEMALE COP HELD FOR SHOPLIFTING
MBABANE – Yet another female police officer has been arrested for alleged shoplifting at Shoprite Supermarket.
Buhle Steenkamp (26) of Mahwalala, who is based at the Mbabane Police Station, under the general duty (GD) department, is alleged to have stolen items valued at E296.94 at Shoprite Supermarket in Mbabane.
The items which the law enforcer is alleged to have stolen from the supermarket include, two tins of Lactogen No.3 milk formula weighing 900 grammes. The milk formula was valued at E239.98.
Also, Steenkamp is alleged to have stolen Parmalat cheese slices retailing at E24.99. In the same act, it was alleged that the officer of the law also unlawfully took a slab of Cardbury Rum and Raising chocolate valued at E14.
According to the charge sheet, Steenkamp is further accused of having stolen a packet of JNR noodles valued E6.99 and 60 grammes of Mister sweet retailing at E9.99.
Steenkamp appeared before Mbabane Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati, who released her on her own recognisance.
This was after her lawyer, Linda Dlamini, pleaded with the court to release her on her own recognisance as she was not a flight risk. She was released pending setting of her trial date.
The police officer stands accused of theft (shoplifting) and during her first appearance last Wednesday, she did not make any plea.
Steenkamp is the second police officer in a space of four months to be arrested in connection with a crime where shoplifting is an element.
Guard
In July, it was reported that a female police officer was caught with stolen items by a security guard at Manzini Shoprite while exiting the supermarket.
The police officer, Nkosingiphile Mkhweli (31) of Zakhele Police Camp, entered the store carrying her bag and loaded some groceries into a trolley.
The stolen items included soup packs (E35.89), two Nivea deodorants (E44), five kilogrammess maize meal (E50), chili wors (E45) and brown sugar (E44) among other items valued at E252.
