MANZINI - A woman was left perplexed after a mysterious fire burnt down her one-room flat.  The incident occurred at Mbhuleni, situated in the Manzini Region, under Kwaluseni Constituency on Wednesday at around 1am.

Narrating the sequence of events leading to the accident, Nonhlanhla  Sibiya, who is a widow, had tears rolling down her cheeks as she narrated  her sorrowful ordeal.

Historical

She cited that on the day the incident occurred, she was at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, where she had attended the historical Umlilo Gospel Crossover show when she received a call from one of her neighbours informing her that her house was on fire.

She said upon being privy to the details she hurried home, only to find that indeed her house had been burnt, with all her property razed to ashes alongside her furniture and sewing machines, given the fact that she is  a tailor.

“I lost everything during the accident, including my children’s birth certificates, identity cards, school uniforms, books and backpacks which I had purchased in readiness for the opening of schools,” she said.

Sibiya said given the intensity of the fire, they had to contact the Eswatini National Fire and Emergency Services personnel who promptly arrived and put it out.
However, she said nothing was salvaged from the house because by the time they arrived, it had already caused extensive damage.
The distraught  Sibiya  could not  hold  back tears as she pointed out that mystery surrounded the catastrophic ordeal which saw her  house, her children’s documents and furniture being burnt to ashes.

Sibiya cited that she suspected foul play given the circumstances that led to the horrific accident.
This, she said, was because  on the day  it  occurred, there was no one in the house given that she had taken her children  to a close  relative she had entrusted  to keep  watch  over them  while  she was away  attending  the  crossover show.

“My house is not wired with electricity and I am certain that I did not leave the candle burning since it was during daytime when I left, therefore, there was no reason why I could have left the candle burning,” she said.
When probed what she suspected might have ignited the fire, Sibiya was not quick to dismiss the suspicions that someone might have lit her house

intentionally.

According to Sibiya, the culprit’s intention was to kill her together with her children while they were asleep.
“The person who did this thought I was inside the house with my children when starting the fire and the intention was to kill us while we were asleep,” she said.
Sibiya also pointed out that something strange occurred prior to the accident as a certain woman, who is one of her friends, warned her a day before the accident to pack her belongings and relocate from her flat to another place with immediate effect.

Confirm

The name of the friend cannot be revealed as she was not available to confirm the allegation made by Sibiya.
She said when she asked her friend why she was advising her to relocate from her flat immediately, she said her friend was reluctant to state the reason but kept on emphasising that she was supposed to relocate as soon as possible.

She mentioned that she did not heed to her friend’s advice because she thought she was just joking and instead she stayed put in her house, however, after the accident occurred, Sibiya said she was under the impression that her friend might have been privy to details that eventually led to her house being burnt down.
Sibiya further urged members of the public who might be able to offer assistance to contact her on 7612 0384 or 7850 6399.
