PIGG’S PEAK – “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.” This is so true for Thantazile Nozipho Mamba (16), who obtained an aggregate of 96 per cent, earning herself the number one spot in the country, in the JC results released yesterday.

She is a pupil at Pigg’s Peak’s prestigious Mhlatane High.
Not only has she topped the country but she has placed the school back to its glory days as the first pupil from the school to beat all others in the country in 10 years.

It is not the first time Thantazile’s name has appeared on the country’s list of top performers as she also did well in the Grade VII results released in 2017.
She completed her primary education at Pigg’s Peak Nazarene Primary.

Excitement

The Head teacher at her former primary school, Gideon Gumedze, expressed excitement about his former pupil’s achievement.
He easily recalled her name, adding that he was not surprised because she had always been a top pupil.

Gumedze highlighted that his school always produced the best, adding that for the latest results, they produced three Merits, 17 First Class passes and 20 Second Class passes.

Thantazile, when reached for comment about her latest performance, expressed excitement.
She said her biggest inspiration was God as she always prayed before studying.

Thantazile also revealed that at the beginning of 2019, she made a resolution to be the number one pupil in the JC examination. She thanked her parents, who she said prayed with her.
Her mother is a tailor while her father is a head teacher at one of the primary schools in the Hhohho Region.
Thantazile’s mother was just as excited as her daughter.

Thantazile also thanked her teachers, whom she said played a very important role in her success.
Asked about the career path she wanted to pursue upon completion of high school, Thantazile said she wanted to study Medicine.
She also commended the school’s Head teacher, Dr Mandla Dlamini, for encouraging them to study.

Noteworthy is that two other pupils, Jabulani Shongwe and Nosimilo Dlamini, were also among the top 50 performers in the country.
Both Jabulani and Nosimilo obtained 90 per cent.

Nosimilo said she wanted to pursue a career as an architect when she completed her studies while Jabulani wants to be a chartered accountant.
The head teacher, when reached for comment, said he was happy with how his school had performed this year.

Dlamini said he was not shocked by Thantazile’s performance as he was fully aware she would excel.
He also expressed excitement about the general improvement of the performance of the school.

Pass

Out of the 262 pupils who sat for the examination at the school, only nine failed.  This translates to a 96.6 per cent pass rate for the school.
The school also produced 22 Merit passes, which is about three times more than the previous year.
The head teacher attributed the school’s improvement to the completion of the school library.

In the past, pupils would sit under trees while studying but this is a thing of the past.
The school now has a library, which the pupils use to access more information and at the same time revise properly.
Dlamini further thanked the dedication of both the teachers and the pupils.

He also commended pupils who performed well not just at Mhlatane but in other schools.
